Nir was born in Jerusalem, Israel where he still lives today with his family. Nir is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, having completed a BA in Economics in 1997; he then completed an MA in Geography with a specialization in planning.

Having sold on his business interests, in 1998 Nir moved in to a role within the Israeli Ministry of Environment, where he spent eight years in various positions, progressing to the most senior levels at the Economic and Standards Division. This culminated with a promotion in 2006 when Nir became the Head of the division, a role he carried out for two years. In 2008 having completed just over ten years in the Ministry, Nir was approached to take on a role in a newly formed Government owned company-DSPC- responsible for the Development of the Dead Sea, as the Deputy CEO and CFO.
The role has somewhat expanded over the last eleven years, the focus has been on developing a tourism infrastructure in the Dead Sea, to include planning of hotels destination, tourism attractions whilst protecting the natural beauty of this conservation area. Nir’s role has expanded to now include a similar role for Eilat and the south of Israel. The day to day is varied, with a focus on hotel development and tourism infrastructure, to the environmental and protection issues facing the geography of the Dead Sea.
